Normally there's a lot of work. Some of the Instructors try to ease the blows with gifts and little kindnesses, but it's still stressful most of the time.

All these good things are kind of worrying, actually.
[ because that was generally the catch, wasn't it? sign up, save your world. nic, on the other hand, had been offered something more. something a little closer to home. ]

Specifically I asked for a way to defeat my enemy's greatest power. [ She wouldn't say it's big of her. Maybe selfish, actually. A quicker way to end the war and free herself? A shortcut away from the firebird? Or just a way to complete her sole purpose in her world?

Some already have. Clean-up duty is the usual punishment for mission failure, but once Dagger turned off cuffs for thirty seconds for his team when half of them failed.
[ nic doesn't directly respond to that, though not necessarily because it hits a little too close to home. it's her business, after all; but it's interesting to note there may be another like him here.

More like the clean up
Of the clean up
[ heh ]
FROM: brown.nicolas@cdc.org
Think I can borrow it for a day
?
no subject
I don't know what that means but it was terrible.
FROM: starkov.alina@cdc.org
Sure. I haven't used it yet, anyway.
no subject
You'll probably get it eventually
FROM: brown.nicolas@cdc.org
Mind if others use it too
?
It's kind of a group thing
no subject
That's not ominous...
FROM: starkov.alina@cdc.org
So long as no one breaks. Normally I would say keep it and do whatever, but you never know when the CDC might ask me about my blue shovel some day.
no subject
We're working for the same people, aren't we
?
You should be used to ominous
FROM: brown.nicolas@cdc.org
It's blue

[ that's weird ]

FROM: starkov.alina@cdc.org
How's CDC been for you so far?
no subject
It's always "for now"
FROM: brown.nicolas@cdc.org

no subject
I'm not, actually. I preferred when I worked so much for them I barely even slept to this.
FROM: starkov.alina@cdc.org
You're not not into calm?

I came here to work
[ with work came their bargain, and that's all he's in for ]
FROM: brown.nicolas@cdc.org

no subject
You agreed to come here?
no subject
Yeah
FROM: brown.nicolas@cdc.org
You didn't
?
no subject
I did. I just feel like everyone else I meet was tricked into it.
FROM: starkov.alina@cdc.org

no subject
A way to fix something
[ aka it's personal ]
no subject
Mine was for a way to save my country.
[ Because he shared. It's only polite. ]
FROM: starkov.alina@cdc.org
I think it's better to be here by choice. Some of the others struggle with it, I think.
