How am I already like a mother?

[ The comment confuses him, but Barnaby doesn't have very much time to dwell on it when Alina speaks again. His confusion only grows. ]

I didn't know that it was a bahari egg. I've never seen one before. Is that what they look like?

You are cradling it like a baby.... [ Just saying.

But at the mention of the egg, Koroleva seems suddenly more interested. She presses to Alina's side, nudging in to look at the egg. She dips her head, touching her nose to it and huffing as she leans back. Alina laughs a little. ]

See. Koroleva knows. I wouldn't forget the bahari eggs.

Which also means you should get ready for that thing to hatch. Soon.

[ This is too much all at once. Barnaby's head is spinning as he tries to take all of this in. It's a bahari. And it's going to hatch soon.

... it's going to hatch soon?! ]

H-how soon is soon? What happens when it hatches?

[ Oh. God. He's going to die. He's not ready for motherhood. ]

[ Sorry about that Bunny... ]

As in a few hours.

You should probably stay in an enclosed area when it hatches. And get food. It'll need meat immediately.

[ ... ]

Raw meat? Or will anything do?

[ Deep breaths, Barnaby. There's no need to start panicking... yet. ]

Slightly cooked.

It needs to be soft for them. [ She remembers Gliese teaching her this when it was her turn. ] But it has to be meat. They eat... a lot. [ Just going to pat Koroleva here. ]

The first feeding is an important one.

[ Barnaby looks like he's about to cry. He intends to soldier on regardless, but... he was absolutely not prepared for this. ]

Alright, I'll do my best to prepare for it. I believe that Kotetsu is in a similar position. I think he'll be happy, he always liked the bahari.

[ Despite how frantic he's suddenly feeling, Barnaby is in the same position, truthfully. ]

[ Alina smiles at him as he seems to finally resign himself to his fate. ]

They're good creatures. They're companions, not pets. They're your equal... [ She looks at Koroleva who has a soft glow to her now. ] They're like your other half. If you treat them right, they'll be good to you.

They're like my other half? Technically, I already have one of those. Are they going to fight each other over the privilege?

[ It's a joke. The more time that he gives himself to grow accustomed to the idea, the more that Barnaby is warming to it. Not that it's terribly difficult to convince him (anymore). A bahari. He'd never thought that he'd get one. ]

While it has come as a shock, I intend to do right by it. I wouldn't settle for anything less. I only hope that my best will be enough.

[ Alina laughs at the joke, though. ] Or maybe a third? I haven't worked that out with Sturmhond and Korol yet.

[ As he sobers more, though, she nods her head. ]

They wouldn't have given you one if they didn't think you could. Whichever of the Instructors did give you guys ones.

Koroleva is going to have a sister soon.

I don't know who it came from. There was no indication. Regardless, I intend to ensure that their faith in me isn't misplaced. I feel as though I've been saying that a lot lately.

[ The thought of Koroleva having a sister makes Barnaby smile. ]

It would be nice to have the four of them hunting together. Our two could certainly use the company.

[ Alina feels the same way. Like she's got so much belief in her she feels she should live up to.

But she strokes Koroleva's side as the bahari sits back now. ]

So could she. There's only been four bahari for a long while now. I'm pretty sure she misses when there were many of them.

[ This time, Barnaby can't quite help leaning over to pat Koroleva, while his free hand continues to cradle the egg. ]

There were quite a few at the start, weren't there? I can understand why she might miss their presence. I do hope that having more around will be good for all of them.

[ Koroleva nudges at his hand, glowing a bit brighter now. She seems pleased by the presence of the egg. ]

They're all going to be a handful. [ The babies always are... ]

But we'll help you guys out. Or at least I will and I'll make Sturmhond if he doesn't.

I wonder what kind of bahari you'll have...

If Sturmhond doesn't help voluntarily, then I'll help you to convince him. Not that you need the help, I'm sure, but it couldn't hurt.

[ The idea makes Barnaby laugh, though. ]

I wonder too. There are two different types of bahari, aren't there?

Trackers and berserkers. [ Alina nods her head. ] Koroleva's a berserker.

All the remaining bahari are... The trackers were large, though. But a little thinner and more lithe.

I've only ever seen the berserkers. What are the differences between the two of them, besides their appearances?

[ He wants to know everything. ]
